Younglife. Yeah. This is going down. Next week. Labels: Vacation Maddie blogged at 12:08 AM on Monday, November 16, 2009 1 comments Lost Words. So a couple weeks ago I went up with some friends and had a fun time taking pictures. We got about one week of Fall this year (woo! I LOVE Utah.... gah) so I took lots of pictures of the pretty leaves. That way when I'm freezing my butt of this summer I can look at these pictures and ALMOST be ok with the fact that this state is freaking cold. ![]() Maddie blogged at 4:39 PM on Friday, October 30, 2009 2 comments I am so excited for this Christmas!. ![]() These Questions were posted on an Australian Tourism Website and the answers are the actual responses by the website officials, who obviously have a great sense of humour (not to mention a low tolerance threshold for cretins!) > Q: Does it ever get windy in Australia ? Have finally been initiated into the elusive Wal-Martia tribe and am slowly adapting to their culture. My first few days were spent with the tribal elders learning the codes and hand gestures that will allow me to be recognized as part of the tribe. I can’t reveal all the details here but one must identify themselves as a Wal-Martian with a variety of letters created out of their arms and a strange, wiggling, motion half way through the dance. Luckily this strange dance is only required during formal group gatherings, most days I can identify myself with the tribal necklace I was presented with upon my formal initiation. Tribal members are segregated according to their functions within the tribe. I have been assigned the area of those known as “the great talkers” whose main function is to resolve disputes between Wal-Martia and outside tribes. I’ve found them to be a welcoming, if someone eccentric group. I suspect that the great talkers make up their own special level of society in Wal-Martia as they are permitted large windows in their quarters, an oddity among the usually light-fearing Wal-Martian people. In my capacity as a gatherer for the great talkers I have had the opportunity to speak to many other tribal groups and am confident that I will be able to become one of them very shortly. I have even foraged for plants and brightly colored picto-graphs to decorate my living space with to blend in with my surroundings. Here's one that I thought was really cute. Tessa, I love it when you model for me. :) ![]() Maddie blogged at 11:31 AM on Monday, October 12, 2009 1 comments Possibly My Favorite Article To Date.. Megan blogged at 8:39 PM on Thursday, October 8, 2009 1 comments I have gone insane.. I really have. Last year, I used to drive by all those kids running in the frigid cold on my way to the gym thinking "no way in a million years will you get me out there doing that." Um yeah... time to shove my foot in my mouth. I can't believe I'm saying this but... running is my prefered workout now. :/ I know. I've gone insane! I really have! I was that kid running in the frigid cold tonight while everyone else drove by! And I liked it, not just because Ashley was there (which was awesome) but dude.... Oh... and everyone be happy for me. I ran for twenty minutes straight yesterday at the gym. ALMOST 2 MILES. Yeah. I'm awesome. Applause are accepted. Labels: Fitness Maddie blogged at 11:43 PM on Tuesday, October 6, 2009 3 comments Squiggle Me Baby.. ![]() This is what I do now. The end. Megan blogged at 8:26 PM on Tuesday, September 29, 2009 1 comments Because I haven't Waxed Eloquent about Media Theory for a While. So... thought of the day. I learned today that during the gold rush in 1849 women were so rare in mining camps that the men would pay $1 just to look at a woman's boot. Considering $1 was the going daily pay of your average East coast factory worker that's a pretty hefty price to look at shoes. Now, having seen pictures of women's shoes back in the 1849 I've gotta say I don't think they were getting their money's worth. I mean, it's not like they were looking at three inch leopard spotted heels with red insides... that I may or may not own... we're talking pointing toe boots of the very non-sexy variety. After some thought I've decided that this supports my opinion that it's not the actual thing that people go crazy for, it's just the idea that they can't have it. Case-in-point, happy meal toys and Robbie and Chloe. Doesn't matter what it is, if Robbie has it, Chloe wants it. I'm pretty sure that she doesn't actually want the cheap plastic car thingy that makes noise when you push the button, and I'm positive that I don't want her to have it, but she's not supposed to take it from Robbie, therefore it's irresistible and she must have it. What is my point you may ask? Well, I was thinking about people's media use and watching all those scandalous shows and like the nerd I am I've formed a theory. I don't think people (except the fetish-y ones) normally like watching all that violence and crassness, I just think they know they're not supposed to have it, so it becomes irresistible. Have you ever noticed how people get a little twitchy watching risky things with other people? Shifty eyes, nervous chuckles? It's like they're not actually enjoying what they're watching, they seem to like the scandle of it more. It makes me wonder what could become irresistible with the right amount of taboo. I read an article about a girl who turned Christian against the wishes of her Muslim family. Aside from my own personal Christian convictions, I wonder if this is the same type of effect. I know that this isn't anything new, people have known about the forbidden fruit thing for years, it just makes me wonder if what is on the media right now is actually a reflection of our culture or more a reflection of our anti-culture? That is all. Megan blogged at 4:21 PM on Thursday, September 24, 2009 2 comments Roadtrippin'. So as a last little hoorah before school started, Tessa and I decided to drive down to St. George and see her grandparents there, then continue on to Vegas to see my grandparents. Grandparents are seriously the best thing, ever. I have decided this. Oh... and Tessa and I made a quick stop in Woodstock on the way down. :) Maddie blogged at 7:54 PM on Thursday, September 17, 2009 0 comments Guess What!!!. ![]() I'm working here now. Yes. I am excited.
Megan blogged at 2:03 PM on 1 comments No Wait? What?! No Way.. So, there's an article on BBC today about how India just might not be ready for the 2010 commonwealth games. BBC says India is just a little surprised that it's taking longer than they thought to...you know... create an entire infastructure for the city. Go figure.
Megan blogged at 8:13 AM on Tuesday, September 15, 2009 2 comments Undecided. I do however have all evening to change the template around. Which takes forever, since I am not a webmaster/computer geek by any stretch of the imagination. Can't decide if I'm going to keep this one. The whole "Till the end" thing at the top... I don't know. How do you guys feel about it? I would change it but the actual words and the dots underneath it are an image the creator used to make this layout, which essentially means I can't change it. Bummer. The only problem, really, is that this blog is called Dancing Lessons with God... not Till the End. Tell me what you think? Please? Maddie blogged at 10:08 PM on Monday, September 14, 2009 1 comments Apologies concerning my current student status.. Unlike Megan, I currently do not have all day to sit around watching NCIS and making blog posts. I am sorry though. I've just been doing a lot of homework (Russian taking most of my time) and when I do have free time I've been catching up on CSI: Miami. Man, I love that show. It's pretty much is the best one of all the CSI series'. That being said, I will now make a post concerning my semi- pre-school- activities. Observe: The next couple of pics are from a hike my family and I took up Red Rock Canyon outside of Las Vegas. I guess you would say it's sort of a tradition to go up there everytime we're visiting the fam down in Vegas. Sadly, I always don't want to go and then I get up there and I end up being really glad I went. Maybe now that I've gotten all these cool pictures I'll be more excited to go up there in the future both before and while I'm there: Maddie blogged at 4:47 PM on Sunday, September 13, 2009 4 comments Maddie where are you!. Maddie! Where did you go? There are pictures to post here and your fantastical voice that is missing from our blog. It makes me very, very sad. In other news, Global Warming is officially made up since it hasn't gone above 85 degrees the entire time I've been home in AR. Mostly it's been in the 70's/. And it's summer. Just further proof that weather is just.. well weather and likes to do it's own dang thing thank you very much. I learned this last night as a drempt about being a weather changing cop based out of Los Angeles. I really neeed to stop watching NCIS and reading before bed. Megan blogged at 9:14 AM on Saturday, September 12, 2009 0 comments The Great White Job. Travelers Log Day 14: Still hunting for the great white job… things are slow going but positive. Caught sightings of the job on several of the occasion, elusive little bugger. Been getting help from local natives from the Walmartian tribe, a friendly but somewhat strange culture, they require initiates to perform a complicated and somewhat confusing dance before being admitted to the tribal homeland. After several attempts my dancing has improved enough to gain admittance on Tuesday, directly after their traditional day of labor. I have great hopes that with their help I will be that much closer to the great white job. To bide my time in between job hunting forays I have been catching up on the military training techniques as exhibited by the NCIS guide to investigation. Am now confident that should a naval officer be murdered in Walmartia I will be able to successfully solve the crime. Megan blogged at 2:05 PM on Wednesday, September 2, 2009 1 comments
